About Yorkstone

Examples of Our Yorkstone and Yorkstone Work

When newly quarried, appearance is sandy in colour, although it may be possible that the flag stone may appear in different colourings due to varying amounts of the different minerals that make up yorkstone.  A sedimentary, carboniferous rock, formed over 300 million years ago when wind, pressure, heat and water facilitated the combination of quartz, mica, feldspar, silica calcium carbonate, iron oxides and clays. Very robust and over time showing little or no signs of deterioration or corrosion, Yorkstone provides a natural resource that can be used for a wide variety of building needs and has been used throughout the building industry for centuries for various architecture and buildings from mills and terraced houses to stately homes and municipal buildings.  Historically, London was known for having streets paved with gold, this, in actual fact was of course yorkstone.  Yorkstone is very robust and overtime has shown little or no deterioration or corrosion.
